Since Russia’s 2014 annexation of Crimea and intervention in Eastern Ukraine, Europe has been seeking a response to Moscow’s muscular foreign policy and provocative behaviour in the former Soviet Union. While the West did implement numerous reassurance measures for its Eastern allies, the prospects of countries like Ukraine and Georgia to join NATO remain weak.
