Researches about Ukraine

Phyllis Bennis on Democracy Now Discussing the War in Ukraine and Israel’s Recent Attacks on Gaza

Institute for Policy Studies

Phyllis Bennis, Director of the New Internationalism Project at IPS, spoke to Amy Goodman of Democracy Now! on May 9, 2023 about the United States’ role in Ukraine’s counter-offensive, and Israel’s recent attacks on Gaza.
The Biden’s administration recently announced a new $1.2 billion military aid package for Ukraine’s counter-offensive strategy, while Russia rains down strikes on Ukraine. Amy Goodman wonders, “Where is this going?” Phyllis says, “I’m afraid that what we’re looking at has already already collapsed into a war of attrition.” She explains this and strategic alternatives to militarism that could be deployed in the region in the clip below.

In the second half of the interview, Amy and Phyllis discuss Israel’s decision to breach a ceasefire by launching air strikes on Gaza, killing innocent women and children. Phyllis called this yet another horrific example of a long history of Israel’s willingness to carry out extrajudicial killings, even if it puts innocent civilians in danger. See the full interview in the clip below.
