Schulz “optimistic” on CETA but Canada laments “the end and the failure of the discussions”The Canadian government has walked away from talks with Belgium’s Wallonia region that were aimed at breaking the deadlock over the CETA trade deal with the EU. Chrystia Freeland, the Canadian Trade Minister, regretted “the end and the failure of the discussions with Wallonia”, saying that the EU “is not capable right now” of finalising the deal, and adding, “The ball is in Europe’s court and it’s time for Europe to finish doing its job…From Canada’s perspective, our work is done.”
