President Miloš Zeman’s statement in the Palace of Europe regarding annexation of Crimea, triggered a violent reaction not only in Ukraine but also in the Czech Republic. This statement was condemned both by Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka and Foreign Minister Lubomir Zaorálek. Czech representatives in the European Parliament urged the president to apologize to the Ukrainians.
